We met up with Janis and Suzi. Their child is also named Pauline, she's the same age as our Pauline and born on the same day as Triin (Dec 3rd). They spent the last 2 months traveling around New Zealand like we're planning to. Janis is a music producer and Suzi is a music teacher. Our first point of contact was through FB marketplace - they were selling their van converted by RDS (the same one that we bought our van from). They were the first owners of this particular vehicle and had to deal with a series of issues: a clutch that gave up on mountain roads, various water leaks, door locking problems, and a blown tire on the highway.
Many vehicles circulating in the market have issues - each owner spends a few months to a year with the car and often tries to pass it on like a hot potato before the problems become obvious even to people totally glueless about mechanics, typically through the car breaking down on the roadside. That's why I wouldn't buy anything from this market, from anyone, without a Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI) - sometimes sellers themselves might not even be aware of the problems lurking around the corner. I experienced this with my previous car - in the first week, I had to replace the timing belt and ended up paying an extra 25% of the car's purchase price.
